Silverlight Blooming

Seems Silverlight is blooming slowly into Maturity …!  I was just expecting the capture of NBC to air olympics was a big boost.  But it seems that silverlight is blooming much more than that.  Google had to jump in to adapt to such a big target, that Double Click advertisements are going to be broadcast within the silverlight video player!  Congrats to Microsoft on such a good move!

Let us see how it goes from here!

WPF V1 Woes

Hi Everyone,

The more I explore WPF, the more feature deprived it seems. The justification everywhere – it is V1. Then it has a long way to go production quality I suppose!

Features I have come to a dead end, when I searched for ….

  • No support for MDI controls
  • No splitter support for controls other than Grid
  • Have to Interop with Windows Forms so that you could get the Web Browser control to work

I shall increase the list, as and when I come across. There are a lot of good features on the screen design side, especially for the artists to play around …. But I suppose a long way to go for the developers to own and create production quality code …! As told before, Let me see if the summer update for WPF brings in some good enhancements ….!

I still feel, Microsoft gives a step motherly treatment to places like Philadelphia.  It does not get good speakers and we had our Key Note by Video Conferencing, while the last year, Philadelphia had SQL Server Product Manager for the Keynote address!

The speakers on the other hand, also were not so conducive.  Though the event commended a full hall to begin with, when it all ended, the hall was only half full …!  I am sure, if Microsoft were to give some importance to this good old ex Capital City, its products would be driving good!

It is also interesting to note that big players like Cigna and the like are housed in and around Philadelphia.  Let us see what holds up in the future!!!

Microsoft Launch – Heroes Happen Here – Philadelphia

Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow I would be going to the Launch event in Philadelphia …!  Let us see how it goes there with the Launch!  As per my opinion, though Microsoft has many customers hooked to the products being launched, they are not complete.

As most of you might know, Visual Studio 2008 has a lot of performance issues on the designer for WPF.  Scott Guthrie has promised that there would be an interim release to fix perf issues, but that needs to be seen!  SQL Server 2008 which is not yet released is a part of the Launch, means it is an unfinished product.  Seems Windows Server 2008 also on question on the basic design flaw ….!  Time will tell on how enduring these products would be!

Anyhow, shall update you once I am back!
